Great Britain, 1943
An 18 cylinder sleeve valve 4 stroke radial engine.
Classed as one of the best radial engines every designed.
It was quiet, smooth running and low profile.
This engine is from Guido Zuccoli’s Sea Fury, although some were used in commercial airliners into the 2550 hp with a single stage supercharger. The smaller 14 cylinder engine powered the Beaufighter – these relatively quiet engines gave it the nickname “Whispering Death”.
